For over 50 years, family-owned and family-run Ebel Quarries of Wiarton, Ontario has been quarrying attractive, quality limestone for residential and commercial uses.
Ebel's main product is dolomite limestone, also known as dolostone, Wiarton Black
Dolostone, Ledgerock, Eramosa and Wiarton Stone. Ranging in colour from beige
to black, it is a medium-hard limestone with a variety of uses as a decorative
and building stone. It can be used to face buildings and fireplaces, as a paving
stone for patios and walkways, as well as copings for pools, walls and steps.
This stone has been used in the past in Wiarton's former public library building,
built in the mid 1960s, and, recently, in the BMTS/BMI building in Tiverton, Ontario. The majority of Ebel's customers purchase stone
for residential building projects.
Ebel Quarries is proud to be involved in its community, and is a supporter of minor sports, the Escarpment Centre Ontario, the local MRI campaign and education. The local school board, with Ebel's permission, uses the quarries as an outdoor classroom to examine fossils and the formation of the sedimentary rock that is the basis of the Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Peninsula's bedrock. Students can view common fossils up close on display in Ebel's showroom. In this way, students gain first hand knowledge of the geological history of the escarpment, how it has been and continues to be changed over time. A member of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business and Landscape Ontario, Ebel Quarries is an equal opportunity employer that offers year round employment to approximately 50 people.
Ebel Quarries is located about one and a half miles west of Wiarton on Bruce Road 13 on the beautiful Bruce Peninsula.
