Ebel Quarries: A Third-Generation Wiarton Stone Quarry
Ebel Quarries Inc. has been quarrying attractive, quality limestone for residential and commercial projects since 1950, serving clients across Canada and the United States. Founded and grown across three generations of the Ebel family, the quarry has been part of Polycor Inc.'s North American network since February 2023, and continues to quarry, cut and finish natural stone at its own site just outside Wiarton, Ontario.
Our History
Ebel Quarries Inc. was founded in 1950 by Charles Ebel, who started the business with one homemade track saw and a modified army truck fitted with hydraulic arms. Charles and his five sons — Rowan, Grif, Herb, Doug and Roger — began quarrying stone and taking on stone installation jobs across the region.
Grif Ebel was instrumental in naming and bringing recognition to the term "Wiarton Stone," a name that has since become the benchmark for high-quality genuine stone. Now in its third generation, Ebel Quarries Inc. joined Polycor Inc. in February 2023, and Polycor continues to run the Wiarton quarry and cutting shop with the same dedication and quality it was founded upon.
Our Operation
Ebel Quarries has grown into a year-round operation with over 50 employees, more than 25 pieces of cutting equipment and 29,000 square feet of manufacturing warehouse space. Our automated saws feature a touch screen laser interface, laser light for accurate blade positioning, and fully automated, programmable cut cycles.
We use CNC equipment in the flame surfacing and profiling of our natural stone products, and offer a calibrating process on request to meet specific design requirements. As quarrying and cutting technology advances, we continually strive toward further automation to provide our customers with more efficient service.
